Sue Thayer, leather mask artist did a demo of her tachnique for making casts of people's faces. Julie Reiter volunteered to be the CAST WOMAN.

If you want more info about this technique, or wish to attend a workshop, you can call Sue at:

Rubbing petroleum jelly on Juiie's face.

Putting plastic wrap around Julie's hair.

Starting to wrap wet plaster pieces onto Julie's head and face.

More strips are placed while soft music plays.

Julie is completetly plastered!

The "impression" made from Julie's face is ready within about 30 minutes.

It dries very quickly.

Whew! Petroleum jelly on your face is not easy to remove!

Julie was a good sport to volunteer!

Another plaster mould is usually made from the impression of a face. Because that would take more time to make and to dry, Sue Thayer brought one of her original moulds from another person's face, to let anyone who wanted to shape the wet leather over the mould.

Soaking and making sure the leather is thoroughly wet.

Sue Thayer shows everyone how to press and curve the leather into the shape of the face mould.

Then others try, and . . . .

try, and try, and press and pinch, and then . . . .

a moulded leather face. Nice jobe everyone!

It's beautiful.
